Neil Little is a singer-songwriter from Stratford, Ontario Canada. Neil began playing guitar at 12 years old and almost immediately began writing his own material. In the late 80’s in high school he formed his first band as a guitarist and singer playing and recording all original material that would be considered early indie-rock. This young band played only one show - an opening slot for Montreals ‘The Gruesomes’. During his 2 years at Sheridan college in Oakville Neil formed Tumbleweed and continued writing original material and performing. Tumbleweed’s sound was alt-country before the term existed! After graduating from applied photography in the early 90’s Neil could be found playing in folk-rock duo 'Field of Tweed’ and recording songs with long time friend Chris French, the two would go on to form the band ‘Chrome Hearts’ with drummer Jim Burek. The Chrome Hearts enjoyed time spent at CKMS radio in Waterloo playing live to air and recording in their studio, as well as doing live shows around Kitchener Waterloo. Later Neil went on to form ( along with Jeff Appel) the alt-country-indie-rock band ‘Firefly’. Firefly recorded 2 albums, the first an EP and the second a full length album engineered by Scott Merritt at the Cottage in Guelph. Joining Neil in firefly was bassist Jeff Appel and drummer Nick Bailey and in the later years their numbers grew to include Larry Guzik on guitar and vocals. Firefly enjoyed plenty of college radio airplay and charting, as well as some airplay on CBC and did many shows in Southern Ontario including famed venues such as The Horseshoe Tavern and Rivoli to name a few, they also opened for the likes of ‘By Divine Right’ and ‘The Golden Dogs’. Firefly played south of the border on two occasions at a music festival in Harrisburg P.A. and played a small weekend tour in P.A. the following year. Firefly disbanded in 2006. After a brief hiatus the Chrome Hearts reformed with a slightly different line up and over the course of several years played occasional shows as well as doing some recording. In 2017 Neil decided to embark on a solo career and began the process of promoting himself as a solo singer songwriter. Neil recorded his first solo EP in 2019 with Scott Merritt at the controls once again. The result was six songs of alt-folk acoustic music with electric guitar work sprinkled in. The album was handled by publicist Jason Schnieder. Shortly after his first solo release and shows to support it covid hit the world and Neil’s plans for live shows to support the new record were halted. During 2021/2022 Neil recorded his second solo album titled’ An Echo Gone’ entirely in his house, the record was mastered by Jim Burek. Neil also filmed a companion video for the record and this video was featured in the 7th siding film festival in B.C. Currently Neil has been playing shows in southern Ontario, including opening slots for Jim Bryson and String Bone ( Barry Payne) and working on new material which he is hoping to record soon.
